Instructor/Assistant Professor of Art - Tenure Track

Provide high quality and engaging instruction in first‑ and second‑year Art courses to a mix of majors and non‑majors. Position typically requires a teaching load of the equivalent of 30 credits per academic year.

Priority is on excellent teaching, including online instruction, synchronous delivery, along with advising, assessment, service, student recruitment, curriculum development, articulation with high school and university faculty and professional development activities. Division responsibilities are described in the faculty employment policies section of the
* NWC Board Policy Manual.*

Teach first‑ and second‑year courses in Art primarily face‑to‑face (on campus), but occasionally in virtual, and online settings.

Teaching load will include, but is not limited to, Drawing I, Design: 2D, Design:
Color, Art History I and II, Introduction to Art, and sophomore‑level Painting, Printmaking, Life Drawing, and Drawing II.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high quality, engaging instruction.
  • Assist in the ongoing development and assessment of curriculum.
  • Develop course syllabi and employ varied instruction techniques that promote learning and address student achievement of expected learning outcomes.
  • Evaluate student performance and achievement of course, program, and all‑college student learning outcomes.
  • Recommend appropriate texts and teaching aids to enhance the teaching‑learning process.
  • Assist with academic advising and other related activities, including advising students and supporting students in program‑related activities, holding office hours for academic advising and student consultation, and advising and assisting students during the ongoing registration process.
  • Serve on College committees as requested, elected or assigned; contribute to program, division, and department meetings.

Personal and Professional Development:

  • Maintain a high level of content knowledge and engage in ongoing professional development in relation to one’s field and teaching.
  • Maintain state‑of‑the‑art knowledge and competence in the appropriate academic disciplines.
  • Demonstrate mutual respect and civility and coordinate activities to promote the highest level of student learning and productive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, administration, and community members.
  • Contribute to positive program articulations with schools and colleges.
  • Actively participate in assisting the College in maintaining accreditation standards.
  • Assist others on an as‑needed basis; participate in college activities; perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Master of Fine Arts in a 2‑D specific discipline (Drawing & Painting, Printmaking) from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Two years of effective classroom teaching experience in fine art and art history at the collegiate level.
  • High level of personal artistry in two‑dimensional artistic mediums.
  • Experience in gallery operations and management—exhibition planning, design, and installation.
  • Activity in professional organizations.
  • Proficiency in written, oral, and interpersonal communications.
  • Skills in developing rapport with students.
  • Experience promoting learning in and/or out of the classroom.
  • Demonstrated commitment to assessment of student academic achievement.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering distance education, hybrid, and/or online classes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively independently and collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated willingness to participate in a collaborative team approach to education.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continued professional development.
  • Demonstrated experience in Adobe Suite software and professional photographic documentation of artwork.
  • Curriculum development experience.
  • Commitment to the community college mission, including the planning and facilitation of student extracurricular activities and trips.
  • Proficiency in computer applications and knowledge of advising and student support practices.

Position begins Fall 2026. Faculty orientation is 8/20‑8/21 2026.
