Senior Business Analyst, SBDC

Reporting to the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Director, meets with small business owners and prospective owners who are Small Business Development Center clients; uses interview and counseling techniques to gather information about business operations; conducts independent research to supplement information gathered directly from SBDC clients; analyzes information gathered to formulate specific recommendations that would enhance the success of clients' businesses.

• Uses interview and counseling techniques to gather information and assess clients’ needs.
• Provides small business counseling or e-counseling and business assistance services throughout the Service District, in accordance with SBA and AZSBDC network guidelines and procedures, including but not limited to:
• Analyzing the specific business and industry data in finance, marketing, management, and operations;
• Providing guidance in the development of business plans and financial loan packages;
• Calculating and interpreting historical and projected financial ratios;
• Preparing pro forma cash flow and financial statements;
• Providing guidance on expansion to include employment requirements, foreign markets, and government contracting;
• Providing mentoring in the development of comprehensive marketing plans;
• Troubleshooting to identify the problem and areas for improvement;
• Providing information on federal, state, and local regulations and programs, and
• Providing guidance in loan packaging to pre-venture, start-up, or advanced-stage existing businesses.
• Tracks, collects, and records economic impact to meet annual agency goals
• Use a variety of digital tools with confidence, including Zoom, Dropbox, the SBDC team share drive, Hello Sign, Facebook, Linked In, You Tube, and others
• Comfortably meet with team members and clients on a regular basis via technology and digital tools, including Zoom, Google Meet Ups, Teams, and others
• Work in and travel to rural, underserved communities across Yavapai County
• Utilize public speaking skills to train and teach business owners on a variety of topics
• Promotes the mission of Yavapai College SBDC, the community relations department, Yavapai College, and the Arizona Small Business Development Center Network
• Performs other duties of a similar complexity as assigned

Knowledge of:

• Small business management practices/principles
• Business bookkeeping principles
• Assistance with access to capital
• Creating marketing plans
• Development and analysis of business plans and financial statements
• Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Power Point
• Computer accounting software (Quick Books and/or other)

Demonstrated ability to:

• Coach or advise small business owners and managers
• Understand complex business challenges
• Effectively counsel a culturally and economically diverse client base
• Work independently with minimal direct supervision to complete assigned tasks
• Work cooperatively with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds
• Work effectively in a fast-paced environment, balancing multiple projects simultaneously
• Establish good community relations
• Speak and write effectively; communicate with small business owners and small business service providers in public and private sectors, as well as with civic leaders in multiple settings

• Bachelor's degree AND 6+ years experience as a business analyst with an SBDC or other agency, or equivalent experience
• Experience and ability to lead team meetings and provide counsel and direction to other team members
• Experience and ability to present SBDC data and impact to senior management and community and college leadership
• Ability to expertly guide and advise entry level analysts and provide mentorship and training to less experienced colleagues
• Have strong problem-solving skills with a track record of solving complex business issues with 2nd and 3rd stage businesses
• Experience in identifying and managing business risks
• Experience and expertise in identifying resources, subject matter experts, and other professional counsel to solve complex business challenges in partnership
• Proven experience in managing and retaining relationships with key stakeholders, executives, and lenders/sources of capital
• Proficiency in expert business training content and delivery

• Master's Degree in Administration, Accounting, Marketing, Finance or another related field
• Current or previous business owner, founder, entrepreneur
• Work experience in a community college/higher education environment
• Bilingual, Spanish speaking and writing
