Position: Public Notice Clerk
Overview
Responsible for processing legal advertising, legal notices, obituaries and death notices for WNI newspaper companies.
Essential Functions
Accepts and places legal ads/notices and obituaries from individuals and businesses via email, phone or over the counter in a courteous and professional manner, ensuring the highest level accuracy and customer service at all times.Learns and is proficient with the computer operating system for legal advertising and obituaries.Advises customers, mortuaries, city and county contacts regarding pricing of legal ads/notices and obituaries.Proofs all obituaries and legal notices before printed with the assistance of the manifest.Monitors collections. Follows company expectations on prepay and billable customers. Keeps timely with affidavit processes. Works with business manager on new account setup and credit terms.Calls customers for possible renewal of legal ads.Adheres to all legal requirements, legal guidelines and deadlines.Learns AP Style for obituaries.Handles cash accurately and credit card information in a confidential manner.Informs supervisor of printed errors in a timely manner.Seeks approval for rectifying customer complaints regarding credits or refunds.Exceeds customer’s expectations in a courteous and professional manner. A customer is anyone who contributes directly or indirectly to the revenues of the organization.Basic knowledge of office equipment including computers, email, fax machines, scanners and copiers. Types at least 70 words per minute.Other Responsibilities
Participates in company safety policies and procedures.Contributes to team effort by accomplishing any customer service-related duties to the desired results as needed.Cross trains in other jobs for back-up purposes and related duties as assigned by management.If the essential functions of the position require the employee to drive, they must provide and drive vehicle, possess a valid driver’s license and necessary amount of auto insurance.Language Skills

Education, experience and skills required
High school diploma or equivalent.Type 70 words per minute accurately.Ability to work with public, good customer service.Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality.Physical Demands
The physical demands of the job may include bending, sitting, standing, lifting, climbing and driving.
1. Physical demands are typical of an office environment.
2. Must be able to lift up to 25lbs.
