American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Medical Telemetry/PCU position requiring at least 1 year of Med Surg experience and the ability to read telemetry strips.
Details- Acute care Med Surg Telemetry/PCU unit with 30 beds across three 10-bed pods
- Patient ratios of 1:5-6
- Cares for surgical patients (total hip/knee replacement, small bowel resection, hysterectomy, exploratory lap) and medical patients (MRSA, C-diff, suicide attempt, substance withdrawal, COPD, pneumonia, COVID)
- Telemetry patients include those with chest pain
- Cares for stable CPAP/BiPAP patients
- Remote Monitor Techs are available, but RNs must be able to read their own telemetry strips
- Nursing assistants typically carry 10-15 patients; if unavailable, RN takes 3 patients and provides primary care
- Charge RN oversees 50 inpatient beds across MST, Peds, and the Acuity Adaptable MCU unit
- Uses Cerner EMR
- 12-hour night shifts,
- Every other weekend required (Friday/Saturday for nights)
- Holiday rotation required to distribute holidays fairly
- May participate in low census standby rotation depending on contract
- Floats to Multi Care Unit, Pediatric unit (for adult MST patients), and West Campus Med Surg Tele
- No drip titration required
- Active AZ or Compact RN license required, active at time of consideration (pending licenses not accepted)
- BLS and ACLS certifications required, active and in hand
- Minimum 1 year of Med Surg experience required
- Telemetry experience preferred
- Must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips
- Must pass a dysrhythmia exam within two attempts prior to contract signing
- Must be willing to precept nursing students
- Must be willing to care for both MST and PCU patients
- Provide direct patient care across a combined Med Surg Telemetry/PCU population with a mix of surgical and medical diagnoses
- May be asked to precept nursing students during the assignment
- Required to pass a sterile technique pass/fail test (Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes) on the first day of orientation
- Failing the dysrhythmia exam or sterile technique test twice results in a 6-month ineligibility period with this health system in AZ and Sacramento, CA
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any facility associated with this health system within the past year
- Candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, verified by driver's license address
- Scrubs of any color accepted except camouflage
- Attends hospital-wide orientation plus unit orientation based on experience level
