The Ministry of the Solicitor General, Ontario Provincial Police, and the Regional Commander of East Region seeks a qualified individual to join our Unit. In this exciting, rewarding and challenging opportunity, you will provide operational support to the detachment by taking OPP/detachment inquiries and dispatching the appropriate service response. You will also provide reception and administrative support to Detachment personnel in the co‑ordination and processing of administrative services.

Note:

This position requires the ability to work a schedule that includes evenings, overnights, and weekends.

The results of this competition will be used to fill current and future opportunities with qualified eligible candidates during the next 12 months following the competition closing. There are no provisions for relocation, accommodation or travel (including meals or vehicles) for this position. Exact dates are to be determined.

Grenville County Detachment has two locations, one in Prescott and the other in Kemptville.

You will provide operational support to the detachment by taking OPP/detachment inquiries and dispatching the appropriate service response. You will provide reception and administrative support to Detachment personnel in the co‑ordination and processing of administrative services.

What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
  • Ability to pass an OPP background/security investigation.
  • 40 w.p.m. typing speed.
  • Ability to work 12 hour shifts in a 24-hour rotating shift environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilties
  • Ability to plan and prioritize administrative work on a daily basis.
  • Oral communication skills to clarify the nature of requests from callers, relay messages and respond to enquiries by providing detailed information, in person and by phone to agencies, companies, court and legal personnel, police services, and the public.
  • Teamwork and interpersonal skills to interact with officers and other members of the detachment.
  • Knowledge of record management practices to maintain an organized, up‑to‑date record system.
  • Written communication skills to input accurate information, compose correspondence, proofread a variety of documents, compile reports and summarize information.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision in performing clerical and administrative support duties. Supervision is available for the more difficult decisions and questions.
  • Ability to problem solve to provide assistance in fast paced or emergency situations.
  • Knowledge of, and skill in, computer operation and software including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint to produce court documents and type correspondence.
