C5 Youth Foundation Of Southern California
C5 Youth Foundation of Southern California is a five-year leadership development program. C5LA recruits high-potential youth from under-resourced areas of Los Angeles and provides resources, support, opportunities and experiences that enable them to realize their potential so they may actively seek higher education and grow into tomorrow’s leaders.
The first-year experience is at Camp where in-coming freshmen get away from home and out of their comfort zones. At camp participants gain new experiences, and learn leadership skills through high adventure activities including high ropes, camping and aquatic activities. Also, students participate in social awareness and leadership programming to understand how to address challenges in their lives and how to achieve their goals.
Roleand Expectation
The role and expectation of the Camp Counselor is to create an environment to develop leadership and growth among participants. The role of the Camp Counselor is to:
- Supervise groups and facilitate leadership development activities and curriculum for teens 13-14 years of age
- Uphold the C5LA mission and conduct programming in line with C5LA goals
- Participate in all camp activities, indoor, outdoor and off site
Counselors provide an experience that develops self-confidence; develops maturity and responsibility; and is fun and memorable.
Duties- Provide continuous development of participants through structured regular mentor-mentee interaction and check-in’s
- Adhere to and enforce appropriate safety policies and emergency procedures
Facilitate large and small group discussions - Lead physically active games engaging all participants
- Sleep overnight with group in cabins
- Organize and keep track of program/activity equipment and materials
- Incorporate experiential learning into all activities
C5LA utilizes a rental camp located in Prescott, AZ. Transportation is provided from Los Angeles, CA to Prescott, AZ.

June 12 and 13 in Los Angeles, CA and June 17th – June 20th in Prescott, AZ - Session 1:

Qualifications- Experience in supervising and working in youth (teen) development At least 18 years of age and one year removed from high school
- Ability to develop, execute and supervise a safe and challenging program that meets the organization’s goals
- Physical ability and stamina to fulfill specific responsibilities in outdoor summer camp environment (including tasks such as lifting equipment, climbing, hiking, instructing and managing participants in open hot outdoor environment)
- Good show of character, integrity, adaptability, enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control
- Ability to accept supervision and guidance under flexible circumstances including adherence to policies
