Plan Examiner – City of Prescott, AZ
Prescott, AZ $97,300.00-$
Responsibilities- Conduct technical examinations of building plans for commercial and residential construction to ensure compliance with fire codes and national standards.
- Perform on‑site inspections of construction projects, special events, existing buildings, and various facilities for fire protection system compliance.
- Issue fire code permits, order notices, and violation notices in accordance with adopted codes and ordinances.
- Coordinate with other city departments to review plans for building, fire, zoning, and other adopted codes and track plans through the review/approval process.
- Represent the City and Fire Department in public meetings, presentations, and civic group events.
- Investigate complaints, hazardous material incidents, and fires, prepare case files, and testify in court.
- Respond to emergency incidents during on‑call rotations, available 24 h per day, including holidays and weekends.
- Maintain inspection records, documents, correspondence, and files, and use permitting/inspection software modules.
- Provide exceptional customer service in person, via email, and telephone to builders, contractors, architects, engineers, and the public.
- Attach, compile, and submit fee, code adoption, and valuation resolutions and ordinances.
- Assist other departments and perform other duties as assigned.
- Strong knowledge of building, fire, and life safety regulations and their application in construction and the built environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to provide professional guidance to developers, architects, engineers, and city departments.
- Proficiency with inspection tools, equipment, and apparatus, including SCBA for fire/explosion investigations.
- Ability to record and log inspections, manage data in permitting and plan review modules, and produce accurate technical comments.
