Advanced Spine And Pain (ASAP) is a comprehensive interventional pain practice with twelve locations across Arizona. We are committed to whole‑patient care, having launched an integrated behavioral health program at our Phoenix locations. This collaboration makes us the first interventional pain management group in the state to implement a behavioral health integration program.
CompensationBase pay range: $16.00/hr – $23.00/hr actual pay is based on skills and experience.
Position InformationJob Title: Medical Assistant (MA)
FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt
Reports to: RN / Office Manager / Physician
Supervision Exercised: None
Responsible for assisting the providers with patient care. The role serves as the coordinator of care for patients before, during, and after office visits and procedures.
Essential Functions- Facilitates communication between the patient and the provider.
- Collects and shares pertinent information with the provider.
- Receives and acts on directives from provider.
- Prepares patient for visit with provider (rooming, vitals, intake paperwork, urine drug screens, imaging, procedure set‑up, injection prep, data entry into EMR).
- Maintains exam room standards and cleans/restocks as needed.
- Monitors biohazard and sharps containers and replaces as needed.
- Assists the provider in preparing prescriptions and completing forms.
- Retrieves and responds to voicemails within 48 business hours and documents actions into EMR.
- Prepares patient electronic charts before service dates.
- Verifies outstanding testing results are in EMR.
- Scans clinical documents into EMR and prints clinic schedules.
- Ensures patient receives education as indicated by provider.
- Manages EMR desktops of assigned providers in a timely manner.
- Maintains universal precautions in daily duties.
- Assists the procedural team during procedures as assigned by RN or physician (hands instruments, monitors sterile technique, performs other tasks as directed).
- Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and competence in designated skills, including emergency patient care.
- Maintains flexibility with scheduling and job assignments to cover patient needs.
- Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant training program or a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license.
- Medical Assistant experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of the health care field.
- Knowledge of EMR charting and proficiency with documentation.
- Knowledge of pain management/medical/surgical best practices.
- Knowledge of medical office policies and procedures.
- Skill in starting 3 and 12 lead EKGs, vital sign monitoring, urine sample collection, blood glucose monitoring.
- Understanding of the importance of reporting objective and subjective data to RN or Physician.
- Skill in operating clinical equipment used for patient care (patient monitoring, wheelchairs, computer, copy machine, fax machine).
- Ability to interact with management, physicians, and teammates at all levels effectively.
- Ability to communicate in oral and written form.
- Ability to work in a high‑stress environment.
- Ability to perform multiple projects alongside day‑to‑day activities.
- Ability to utilize time effectively and work independently.
- Indoors in a climate‑controlled environment.
- Potential exposure to unpleasant odors, blood, and body fluids.
- Occasional outdoor exposure.
- Good visual acuity and color vision.
- Ability to lift/transfer patients over 100 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as needed.
- Fine sensory and motor skills required.
