Summary

This position serves as the Logistics Management Specialist with responsibility for direction and control of logistics planning, including activities that may span geographically separated areas where no supply‑chain management personnel are assigned. The Logistics Management Specialist will oversee a lower‑graded specialist, collaborate with senior leadership, and develop and implement logistics and supply‑chain strategies to support the VA Health Care System.

Responsibilities
  • Direct, develop, and implement policy programs and procedures for accurate management of SCM planning, providing administrative and technical oversight.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Supply Chain Officer, VAMC senior management, VISN staff, VHA program office, and other stakeholders to develop supply‑chain management strategies.
  • Resolve and contribute to the resolution of high‑priority logistics, supply, distribution, information, or service problems through personal action or coordination with local personnel.
  • Establish procedures for integrated SCM operations with services throughout the VAMC and supported activities, including mission‑essential deployment during simulated and actual emergency response exercises.
  • Ensure all assigned personnel and equipment are properly identified and prepared for deployment.
  • Perform logistical assessments of strategic supply support, coordinating with supported customers and alerting management of systemic problems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues where supply chain deficiencies affect mission readiness.
  • Develop designated supply input for fiscal year and long‑range plans and programs, analyzing material for reasonableness, consistency, and validity of assumptions.
  • Analyze the effectiveness of logistics and vendor support services.
  • Conduct strategic analyses across supply‑chain activities and recommend solutions for improvement.
  • Research private industry and VA best practices to develop and apply concepts that best fit and support supply‑chain requirements.
  • Support long‑range supply‑chain requirements and interactions, optimizing supply‑chain support.
  • Develop logistics and supply‑chain management training opportunities, documentation, and customer supply‑chain systems.
  • Communicate with customers and personnel about the role of logistics in maintaining comprehensive support, operational readiness, and sustainability.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Work schedule:

    Full‑time, Monday‑Friday, 7:30 am‑4:00 pm.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position:

  • Application must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/20/2026. Time‑in‑grade requirements apply to current and former federal employees, with at least 52 weeks at the appropriate GS grade.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS‑11, directly related to logistics management responsibilities, including acquisition management, purchasing, transportation, distribution, inventory management, warehouse operations, and budgeting.
  • Experience leading or managing a team of varied occupations.
  • Candidate must have demonstrated competencies in knowledge, skills, and abilities relevant to the position, and credit for appropriate volunteer experience may apply.
  • Physical requirements:

    primarily sedentary, with some slight physical effort required.
