Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift Med/Surg Telemetry position requiring an AZ or compact license and strong telemetry interpretation skills.
Responsibilities
• Position is in an acute care hospital on a 49-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit
• Primary patient population includes CHF, COVID, respiratory, GI, diabetics, tele, post cath, and total joint replacement cases
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5
• Required to work night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
• Weekend requirement is two weekends per four-week schedule
• Holiday work required; must work a mix of days and evenings over Christmas, New Year's, and Thanksgiving holidays
• Floating to East Campus and potentially PCU may be required if qualified
• Uses Cerner EMR, with prior experience recommended due to limited orientation
• Set rate drips such as Diltiazem/Cardizem are administered; no titration required
• RN is responsible for interpretation and documentation of telemetry strips once per shift
• Self-scheduling system is used but subject to manager adjustment
• Dress code requires navy blue scrubs
• One shift of unit-specific orientation provided
• RNs are supported by Nurse Aides (1:10-15 ratio), Charge Nurse, and House Supervisor
• Required to document telemetry strip interpretation at least once per shift
• BiPap, CPAP, and breathing treatments are used on this unit
• No on-call or standby requirement
• RNs will be the first to float compared to core staff
• Must successfully complete sterile technique testing on the first day of orientation
• Failure to pass the dysrhythmia or sterile technique exams within two attempts will result in ineligibility for Common Spirit Arizona and Sacramento region positions for six months
• Holiday coverage includes both major holidays and associated eves as assigned
Requirements
• Active AZ or compact (NLC) RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses are not accepted
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Minimum two years of recent RN experience
• Must be proficient in reading basic telemetry strips
• Some experience with CVA, TIA, and total joint replacement patients is required
• Must pass a dysrhythmia exam (80% minimum, two attempts allowed) prior to contract
• Cerner EMR experience is recommended due to limited orientation
• Must provide copy of driver's license for consideration
• Two professional references required: one supervisor reference from the past year, and one peer or supervisor reference from the past three years, each including dates of employment and rehire eligibility
• Must not have been employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity facility in the past year
• Permanent residence must be at least 50 miles from the facility
