Medical Laboratory Scientist – Traveler

The Medical Laboratory Scientist – Traveler performs high-complexity testing to support diagnostics, patient care, and clinical decision-making. This role requires strong attention to detail, adherence to CLIA, QA/QC policies, and the ability to work across multiple laboratory systems. The scientist ensures accurate specimen processing, analysis, documentation, and result reporting for a fast-paced diagnostic environment.
Key Responsibilities- Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, analysis, reporting, and recordkeeping.
- Maintain documentation to ensure proficiency testing samples are processed the same as patient specimens.
- Analyze specimens using approved SOPs.
- Review and release accurate test results.
- Follow CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and all safety guidelines.
- Document QC activities, calibrations, maintenance, and instrument performance.
- Identify issues affecting test performance and take corrective action or notify the supervisor.
- Document all corrective actions for deviations in performance specifications.
- Report STAT and Critical results per department procedure.
- Support client and internal inquiries as needed.
- Maintain complete testing records, department appearance, and reagent documentation.
- Train on new procedures; attend department meetings and safety training.
- Participate in regulatory inspections as needed.>
- Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.
- Solid understanding of clinical laboratory testing processes.
- Ability to work within multiple computer systems.
- Knowledge of QC, QA, and all areas of the clinical laboratory.
- Minimum 1 year of high-complexity clinical lab experience preferred.
- BS in Medical Technology preferred; OR
- BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology; OR
- Associate degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology; OR
- Previously qualified under 42 CFR 493.1433 (pre-1990 standards).
- Foreign-educated candidates must provide an IERF credential evaluation.
- U.S. candidates must provide an official transcript.
- National certification (ASCP or AMT) strongly preferred.
- ME state license not required.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and procedures simultaneously.
- Must maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
- Customer service skills required for client and department interaction.
