Reports To: Director of Surgical Services

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Hours: 20/week (Take Call and live within 30 minutes of the Hospital)

Shift: Days, 33 hours/week. Monday, Wednesday, Friday 6:30am-6pm, with a rotating weekend on-call schedule

What You Can Do For Fcmc

Our Surgical Technicians help ensure the success of our surgeries by preparing for and assisting in a wide variety of surgical procedures in multiple specialties. More specifically, the Surgical Technicians’ responsibilities include:

  • Preparing the surgical patient, including positioning, prepping, and draping
  • Assisting with instruments, sponges, sutures, drains, and dressings
  • Performing scrub duties including table set up, instrumentation, first assisting, and counting of instruments before and after operation
  • Assisting the Operating Room RN in providing patient care pre‑operatively, intra‑operatively, and post‑operatively
  • Preparing specimens as needed
  • Observing incisions for bleeding and anticipating the need to control bleeding
  • Assisting with lifting and transporting of patients
Requirements Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Current BLS
  • Excellent verbal communication skills in English
  • Take Call and live within 30 minutes of the Hospital.
  • Meets the requirements for certification (CST) by the Association of Surgical Technologists
  • For current CNAs, LPNs, or RNs willing to complete six months of on‑the‑job training with in‑house education to gain a Surgical Technologist (ST).

Essential Job Functions
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required
  • Regularly required to stand for long periods of time; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or twist
  • Frequently required to perform moderate to complex manipulative tasks
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and peripheral vision
  • Frequently able to move/push/pull up to 50 pounds and lift and carry up to 35 pounds
  • Must have good hearing
  • Must comply with HIPAA and patient privacy
  • Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when required in accordance with facility standards
