Job overviewWe are delighted to invite applications for a Consultant colleague to join our joint teams.
The role is a new 1.0 WTE substantive full-time Consultant post working across renal and maternal medicine teams.
In renal, the post will deliver general nephrology outpatient clinics and dialysis outpatient care, predominantly on the Fylde Coast, with future flexibility to incorporate ward cover and specialist clinics at Royal Preston Hospital (RPH) by agreement.
Maternal Medicine will constitute approximately 50% of the direct clinical care component of this post.
The successful candidate will hold, or be willing to complete, training in Obstetric Medicine via the Royal College of Physicians Obstetric Medicine Credential and will contribute to the continued development of Maternal Medicine services. They will work closely with obstetric, anaesthetic, midwifery and physician colleagues to ensure delivery of high-quality medical care for pregnant and post-partum women.
Main duties of the jobThe duties will consist of:
Obstetric / Maternal Medicine
Providing consultant-level care for women with pre-existing or pregnancy-related medical conditions. Undertake antenatal, postnatal and pre-pregnancy clinics, in-reach ward reviews and participation in Maternal Medicine MDTs. Work collaboratively across disciplines and contribute to service development.
Renal Medicine
Provide general nephrology and dialysis outpatient care. Support inpatient renal activity as agreed. Participate in consultant cross-cover, governance, audit and education.
Working for our organisationOur Renal Department comprises Consultant teams that are divided into regional teams (West Lancashire, East Lancashire plus North Lancashire and South Cumbria as outlined below) to provide care across our service in addition to Central Lancashire. We have a variety of specialist interests amongst the team that enhance the delivery of our tertiary services.
Our department is supported by 7-8 registrars, SCF research Fellowes training in renal medicine and general internal medicine alongside a large friendly and effective group of specialist and registered nursing staff, plus invaluable healthcare assistants, allied healthcare professionals and a full-time Clinical Psychologist.
We have several specialist nursing teams:
Kidney Choices, Vascular access, Adequacy and bone chemistry, Transplant recipient work-up, Live donor transplantation and post-transplant teams, Home Dialysis team (combined PD & HHD) and renal supportive care group.
The Obstetrics and Gynaecological Department is currently made up of a team of 22 substantive consultants. We have five gynaecological oncologists and 7 obstetricians. The remaining consultants cover both obstetrics and gynaecology with a variety of special interests.
