Job overview

Applications are invited for Senior Clinical Fellows in Neonates for an initial 12-month period.

The successful candidates will work as middle-grade (Tier
2) Doctors within the neonatal service, contributing to a full rota including out-of-hours cover. Alongside their clinical duties, the post holder will support the supervision, training, and education of resident doctors, and work closely with the Consultant team to support the day-to-day running of the neonatal unit. They will also be expected to take part in audit, governance, and quality improvement activities.

This role is based solely within Neonates and does not include commitments to general paediatric services.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as a middle-grade (Tier
2) doctor on the neonatal rota, providing safe and effective day-to-day clinical care for neonates, including attending deliveries, performing resuscitation, and managing acutely unwell or preterm infants. They will be responsible for timely assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients on the neonatal unit, and will support escalation and clinical decision‑making in collaboration with the Consultant team.

In addition to their clinical role, the post holder will support the supervision, teaching, and training of junior doctors and other members of the multidisciplinary team. They will contribute to the smooth day-to-day running of the neonatal unit, including handovers, ward rounds, and communication with families. The role also includes participation in audit, governance, and quality improvement activities to support service development and maintain high standards of care.

The post holder will take part in the full shift rota, including nights, weekends, and on-call duties, ensuring continuous 24/7 cover for the neonatal service.
