We are looking for a proactive and experienced Learning Mentor and Family Support Worker to join our team. Cottam Primary School is a thriving community school in the midst of an expansion, where we put the children at the heart of everything we do. This post has been advertised as full-time, however we are open to flexible approaches to working patterns for the right candidate.
ResponsibilitiesAs Learning Mentor, your job will be to ensure that any barriers to learning are identified and overcome. The key purpose of your role would be to work closely with our staff and alongside our children and their families, providing high quality care, advice and support. You will be working with children and families across the whole school; from a variety of backgrounds.
You will be committed to pastoral care and collaborative working.
You will need to be confident when communicating with a variety of professionals in different contexts including face-to-face meetings and using ICT to keep accurate records. Working closely with the Headteacher (DSL) and attendance team you will play a key role in implementing effective support strategies where a commitment to a ‘child-centred nurturing’ ethos is essential.
This position is part time, term time only; salary is quoted on a full‑time basis. If successful, the salary will be paid on a prorated basis.
Essential Qualifications- GCSE Grade C (or equivalent) in Maths and English Language
- NVQ level 3 or above qualification - appropriate to the post (or equivalent)
- Positive handling and restraint training
- Trauma informed training
- Experience of working in a Primary School setting
- Experience of working with children and families both individually and/or in group settings
- Experience in delivering early help support / services as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Understanding of thresholds of continuum of need
- Experience in positive communication with parents and families
- Relevant NVQ level 3 qualification (or equivalent)
- Will spend time in classrooms as required
- Experience of working with children and families in the school environment
- Experience of nurturing child interaction and behaviour
- Experience with in EYFS, KS1 and KS2 mainstream school
- Resilient, reflected and committed
- Ability to work as a team
- High expectations for themselves and the children in their care
- Ensures children are supported socially, emotionally and academically
