Position: Autism Specialist Teaching Assistants Needed

Teaching Assistant – Temp to Perm

Location: Preston
Start Date: ASAP
Pay: £95–£115 per day

Teacher Active is currently recruiting for a Teaching Assistant to join a specialist education setting in the Preston area on a temporary to permanent basis, with an immediate start available.

This role is based within a small, supportive independent specialist school that provides education for children and young people who have autism and additional social, emotional, and behavioural needs. The school prides itself on creating a structured, nurturing, and therapeutic environment where pupils are supported to develop confidence, independence, and essential life skills. Classes are intentionally small with high staff‑to‑student ratios, allowing for personalised support and strong relationships between staff and pupils.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting pupils both academically and socially, helping them to engage with learning and regulate behaviour in a positive and consistent way.

The Role
  • Supporting pupils with autism and additional needs in both classroom and pastoral settings
  • Assisting the teacher in delivering engaging and differentiated learning activities
  • Supporting pupils with challenging behaviour using calm and consistent strategies
  • Providing personal care, which is an essential part of the role
  • Encouraging independence, communication, and emotional regulation
  • Working closely with teachers and support staff to maintain a safe and supportive learning environment
Ideal Candidate
  • Experience supporting children or young people with autism (desirable)
  • Experience managing or supporting challenging behaviour (desirable)
  • Patient, resilient and compassionate approach
  • Willingness to provide personal care when required
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • A genuine passion for supporting pupils with additional needs
