Hillside is a Special School & College for children and young adults with autism, offering a personalised approach to teaching. The school encourages a happy, professional culture and seeks highly energetic, motivated staff who embrace challenge and respect the uniqueness of every student.
Suitable for parents or others who prefer a focus on term time work. School support staff are employed only during term time, with salary paid over 12 equal months.
We have two permanent vacancies starting 01/09/2026. Working pattern is usually Monday to Friday 9:00 to 15:00, with possible adjustment up to half an hour later.

Hillside works with Nelson & Colne College to offer tuition support for Level 3 qualification while you work. - Annual programme of in‑house training – all support staff receive 5 paid training days each academic year.
- Free membership to the school’s health and wellbeing services, including wellbeing clinics, nurse support, GP phone & video consultations, counselling and physiotherapy programmes where needed.
- Work alongside staff whose professional support is sought by Lancashire mainstream schools.
- A positive attitude to work within a dedicated class team.
- Under the supervision of the class team, assist pupils and support the teacher during the school day.
- Abide by the Code of Conduct.
- Level 2 or equivalent qualification in English/Literacy.
- Level 2 or equivalent qualification in Mathematics/Numeracy.
- Ability to relate well to children.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Experience of working with or caring for children/young people with special needs.
- Experience of working with children aged 4–18 years.
