Position: 1:1 SEND TEACHING ASSISTANT
Location: Tarleton

Overview

Weeton St Michael's is seeking a compassionate 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant to support a Reception-aged pupil with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). The pupil benefits from a calm, structured approach, visual supports and a trusted adult to help access learning and develop independence.

Responsibilities
  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support throughout the school day.
  • Support communication using visual timetables, Makaton and structured routines.
  • Deliver personalised learning and play activities.
  • Support transitions, emotional regulation and positive social interactions.
  • Promote safety during indoor, outdoor and physical activities.
  • Assist with personal care and self-help routines.
  • Monitor progress and maintain EHCP records.
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCo, parents and external professionals.
Candidate requirements
  • Experience supporting children with SEND, particularly speech, language and communication needs.
  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, Makaton and communication strategies.
  • Understanding of sensory needs and emotional regulation.
  • Calm, patient, nurturing and able to build positive relationships.
  • Ability to adapt learning to meet individual needs.
  • Confidence in supporting personal care.
  • Team player with the ability to collaborate with staff and external partners.
  • Support the school’s Christian ethos and values.
Contract details
  • Hours:

    8:45am–3:30pm, term time only.
  • Contract:

    Fixed-term, linked to EHCP funding.
  • Start: 28th September 2026 (or as soon as possible).
  • Grade: 4/5.
