Job Description:

We are seeking a passionate and resilient SEND Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated team at a SEMH Secondary School located in Preston, Lancashire. In this vital role, you will be responsible for supporting students with a range of special educational needs and emotional challenges, helping to create a safe and inclusive learning environment where all students can thrive.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide tailored support to pupils with a range of SEND, including those with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), and other learning difficulties.

Assist in the delivery of personalised learning plans, under the guidance of the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) and subject teachers.

Facilitate small group sessions and one-to-one support to address the individual needs of students.

Contribute to creating a positive, secure environment conducive to students' learning and mental wellbeing.

Monitor and track pupil progress, providing feedback to teachers and contributing to review meetings.

Encourage students' social and emotional development, providing strategies to help them engage effectively with peers and staff.

Manage challenging behavior constructively, implementing the school’s behavior policy and using de-escalation techniques where necessary.

Promote independence and self-confidence within the students, supporting their academic and personal growth.

Work collaboratively with teachers, school counselors, and external agencies to ensure a cohesive approach to student development.

Requirements:

Experience working as a Teaching Assistant – experience within an SEMH setting is highly desirable but not essential as training will be provided.

A solid understanding of SEND, particularly in relation to SEMH needs.

Patience, empathy, and a genuine commitment to the well-being and educational success of children with SEND.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building rapport with students, staff, and parents.

Ability to manage challenging behaviour in a calm and effective manner.

Relevant Teaching Assistant qualification, such as an NCFE CACHE Level 2 or 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or equivalent.

Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undergo this process).
