Position: TEACHING ASSISTANT (2A)

Teaching Assistant (2a) – Temporary Fixed Term Contract (Possibility of Permanent)

Location: Ashton Primary School, Ainsdale Drive, Ashton, Preston, Lancashire, PR2 1TU

Duration: Fixed term contract until 31 August 2027 (potential to become permanent, subject to funding)

Hours: 32.5 hours per week, term‑time only (8:30am – 3:30pm)

This role involves working on a one‑to‑one basis with a child who requires support with their social, emotional and mental health.

Candidates will be subject to mandatory safeguarding checks, including an online search in accordance with Keeping Children Safe in Education 2025.

Salary: paid on a pro‑rata basis, based on a full‑time equivalent rate.

Responsibilities
  • Provide educational support to a child on a one‑to‑one basis
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents and external agencies to support the child's social, emotional and mental well‑being
  • Assist with classroom activities and adapt learning materials as required
  • Record observations and progress, and contribute to care plans
  • Maintain a safe and supportive learning environment
Essential Qualifications
  • NVQ Level 2 or above qualification appropriate to the post (or equivalent)
Essential Experience
  • Creative, resilient and able to establish positive relationships with pupils
  • Experience working with or caring for children of relevant age
  • Experience supporting pupils with challenging behaviour
  • Ability to relate well to children
