Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering

About the role

We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering, ideally with interests in Biomechanan‑Centric Systems, to support teaching and contribute to a high‑quality student learning experience within the mechanical engineering provision.

The primary purpose of this role is to contribute to structured module delivery and to provide high‑quality academic and pastoral support within the subject area. The post holder will contribute to the assessment of credit‑bearing work and provide timely, constructive feedback, both formally and informally, to support student learning and professional development in mechanical engineering.

This appointment will play a key role in delivering high‑quality teaching and research, contributing to curriculum development in mechanical, biomechanics and human‑centric engineering, supporting student progression and employability, and enhancing the overall student experience across Engineering programmes.

The role is based in Preston.

You will have experience of teaching in a higher education environment within Mechanical Engineering, Biomechanics, Biomedical Engineering, or a closely related discipline, and will demonstrate a strong commitment to high‑quality teaching and student support. You will be IT‑literate, able to work effectively on your own initiative, and contribute positively as part of a collaborative academic team.

You will hold an undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a related subject, together with a relevant postgraduate qualification. You will also be able to demonstrate a developing research profile that complements activity within the School, with the potential to deliver impactful outputs in areas such as biomechanics, human‑centred design, assistive or rehabilitation technologies, ergonomics, or medical device engineering.

You will hold professional membership of a relevant professional body (such as the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), Engineering Council‑licensed institutions, or equivalent), or be working towards professional recognition, with clear evidence of developing eligibility for membership.
