We are looking for an experienced, proactive and well‑organised Housing Policy & Review Officer to help to deliver a responsive, high‑quality service to households experiencing homelessness or housing issues. This permanent role offers the opportunity to make a practical difference by ensuring timely review decisions, so service users have clarity about their homelessness decisions and driving changes to policy and procedure to ensure an effective and responsive housing service.
Working within our Housing Advice and Prevention Service (HAPS), you will support internal and external colleagues, private and social landlords and service users with accurate housing and homelessness advice. You will work closely with other teams within the Council to develop a good understanding of all types of accommodation available in Preston and support colleagues to monitor property and occupancy standards in temporary accommodation and properties identified as move on accommodation within the private sector.
You will support policy and legislative compliance across the HAPS team which will include homelessness as well as social housing allocations and attendance at strategic meetings relating to the Select Move Choice Based Lettings Scheme.
You will work closely with colleagues working with specific cohorts of housing and homelessness service users to ensure the service is accessible and effective for all groups and communities within Preston. You will maintain accurate records so that the service meets its statutory, safeguarding and financial responsibilities.
There will be ongoing training opportunities to update and refresh work skills and homelessness legislation knowledge.
