We have a fantastic opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to join the team at HMP Kirkham, a Category D / open prison for males with a capacity of around 700. HMP Kirkham offers a unique environment with stunning grounds, a brand‑new, state‑of‑the‑art gym, and many opportunities for both staff and inmates.
Hours and SalaryThis is a full‑time role working 37.5 hours per week. Shift pattern:
- Monday – Thursday: 8 am – 7 pm
- Friday: 8 am – 4:30 pm
- Saturday & Sunday: 8 am – 12 pm
Weekend work is required approximately once per month.
Salary: £25,557 – £29,723 per annum, depending on experience.
Main duties of the job- Deliver exceptional care to patients in the healthcare department alongside the nursing team.
- Implement clinical care packages, phlebotomy, assessment, treatment and evaluation of patient care.
- Support clinics, including bloods, ECGs, observations and weight monitoring.
- Carry out NHS health checks.
- Act as a second checker in pharmacy as required.
- Assist with ordering supplies and equipment, restocking and stock management.
- Primarily work within the primary‑care team, but may also carry out duties in the substance misuse or mental health teams.
- Ideally hold an NVQ Level 2 or 3 qualification in Health & Social Care, or a Care Certificate.
- Experience with phlebotomy is highly desirable.
- Prior clinical care experience, ideally from a hospital or prison setting.
- Clinical skills in venepuncture, ECGs, etc.
- A non‑judgemental, compassionate approach.
- Legal right to work in the UK; subject to additional vetting and security checks.
