Healthcare Assistant

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to join the team at HMP Kirkham, a Category D / open prison for males with a capacity of around 700. HMP Kirkham offers a unique environment with stunning grounds, a brand‑new, state‑of‑the‑art gym, and many opportunities for both staff and inmates.

This is a full‑time role working 37.5 hours per week. Shift pattern:

• Monday – Thursday: 8 am – 7 pm
• Friday: 8 am – 4:30 pm
• Saturday & Sunday: 8 am – 12 pm

Weekend work is required approximately once per month.

Salary: £25,557 – £29,723 per annum, depending on experience.

• Deliver exceptional care to patients in the healthcare department alongside the nursing team.
• Implement clinical care packages, phlebotomy, assessment, treatment and evaluation of patient care.
• Support clinics, including bloods, ECGs, observations and weight monitoring.
• Carry out NHS health checks.
• Act as a second checker in pharmacy as required.
• Assist with ordering supplies and equipment, restocking and stock management.
• Primarily work within the primary‑care team, but may also carry out duties in the substance misuse or mental health teams.

• Ideally hold an NVQ Level 2 or 3 qualification in Health & Social Care, or a Care Certificate.
• Experience with phlebotomy is highly desirable.
• Prior clinical care experience, ideally from a hospital or prison setting.
• Clinical skills in venepuncture, ECGs, etc.
• A non‑judgemental, compassionate approach.
• Legal right to work in the UK; subject to additional vetting and security checks.
