Job Overview

As a valued member of our team, you will have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of mothers and babies. Experienced midwives will receive a comprehensive orientation before joining our Band 6 rotation, while newly qualified midwives will be welcomed into our Band 5 preceptorship programme. Upon successful completion, you will progress to the Band 6 rotation, where you will continue to grow and thrive in your career.

You will be pivotal in promoting our range of services and ensuring that every family receives high‑quality, personalised care throughout their journey.

You will work across all areas of our service, including:

  • Freestanding and alongside birth centres
  • Obstetric delivery suite
  • Maternity assessment suite
  • Antenatal clinics
  • Community services and home birth team
  • Antenatal and postnatal wards
  • Theatre

Collaboration with specialist teams:

  • Enhanced support midwifery team
  • Antenatal screening team
  • Research and development team
  • Rainbow team
  • Diabetes specialist continuity of carer team

Job Description and Main Responsibilities

Your duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting and supporting the lead midwife in the safe and effective management of the area, including personnel, facilities, and associated systems.
  • Serving as a role model, presenting a positive image of self, team, and the organisation.
  • Coordinating and delivering care through appropriate professional practice, delegation, and supervision.
  • Ensuring a high standard of midwifery care is delivered based on assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, in accordance with local and national standards and evidence‑based guidelines.
  • Setting, monitoring, and maintaining standards of care to enhance patient experience and outcomes.
  • Proactively managing risk and maintaining patient safety in accordance with health, safety, and security legislation and guidelines.
  • Communicating relevant information to the multidisciplinary team and external organisations to ensure seamless care.
  • Promoting education and health promotion while advocating for equality in care and practice.
  • Ensuring the care environment is safe, well‑equipped, and compliant with hygiene and cleanliness standards.

Qualifications & Education
  • Appropriate NMC Registration.
  • NMC recognised Mentorship qualification or willingness to work towards, following 18 months commencement in post.
  • Evidence of continuing education or development since qualifying.
  • Degree.
