Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Rehabilitation Officer (Visual Impairment)

Please note that we are unable to offer sponsorship for this role.

Two exciting opportunities have arisen for a qualified VRS/ROVI to join our Sensory Impairment Team. It is a supportive team focusing on working with individuals to overcome the challenges of their vision impairment. As part of the team you will complete assessments (usually in people's homes), deliver training and provide specialist advice and guidance as part of a coordinated response to individuals' needs.

You will be a qualified Vision Rehabilitation Specialist able to deliver such standard training as orientation and mobility, independent living and communication skills, as well as low vision training, though you will not be dispensing LVAs.

The team works in partnership with individuals with vision impairments, their families and carers, as well as all internal and external professionals involved in assessment and service provision, e.g. hearing impairment specialists, social care teams, OTs, health and local and national vision impairment charities. You will need to build professional, trusting relationships with all these partners as you provide high quality assessments and training.

We will offer you good team support, regular supervision, opportunities to build on existing skills and knowledge, great staff benefits, generous annual leave entitlements and the opportunity to flourish as part of an exciting, well-established team that is looking to bring real benefits to a key part of Lancashire County Council's Adult Social Care Service.

The post you are applying for is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2013). If successful you will be required to apply to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) for a 'disclosure'. Further information can be found on the 'Our Recruitment Process' tab.

You will be required to provide a car for use in connection with the duties of this post and must be insured for business use. However, we may consider you if you cannot drive because of a disability.

Interviews will be held in late September to early October.

Local Government Reorganisation

The Government has confirmed that local government across Lancashire will be reorganised, with the current 15 councils being replaced by four new unitary councils covering North, South, East and West Lancashire from April 2028.

If you are successful in your application, you will initially join Lancashire County Council. However, as part of the planned transition, your employment will transfer to one of the new unitary councils from April 2028, subject to the implementation of the reorganisation and relevant employment legislation.

Throughout this period, our focus remains on delivering excellent services to our communities. By joining us now, you'll play an important role in shaping the future of local government and helping to build a strong new organisation that will serve residents for years to come.
