Job Description

Salary £25,989 - £28,142 per annum | Permanent | Full time, 37 hours per week | Building Maintenance Team

The role of General Maintenance Operative involves providing an in‑house repair and maintenance service across the County Hall complex and the Older People’s establishments portfolio within the county. The post is based at County Hall in Preston but may support various sites across the county as required. The post is a full‑time, 37‑hour per week position, Monday to Friday.

Qualifications & Requirements

A full driving licence is required for the role. The successful candidate will receive a business‑use only work vehicle where necessary. An up‑to‑date Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be required prior to employment.

The post is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2013).

Responsibilities
  • Undertake semi‑skilled repair and maintenance tasks to resolve daily issues such as unblocking toilets, clearing drains, collecting debris and waste from external areas, plumbing, tiling, painting, joinery and other tasks as required.
  • Assist the multi‑trade skilled workforce with repair and maintenance tasks across all disciplines.
  • Perform general labouring, grounds clearing, site maintenance and cleaning tasks across multiple buildings, working with the site facilities workforce where needed.
  • Support office furniture relocations and storage to facilitate changes in county council business.
  • Assist with stock areas ensuring cleanliness and support tradesmen with stock control reporting.
  • Conduct regular checks on FM staff vehicles, checking oil, water, tyres and fuel, maintain repair and servicing records, and ensure vehicles are secure at closing of business.
