An exciting opportunity has arisen to join One LSC and Lancashire Teaching Hospitals as Assistant Director of Facilities Management. This is a key senior leadership role responsible for the strategic and operational delivery of Facilities Management services across the Trust. Reporting to the Director of Estates and Facilities, you will lead a workforce of approximately 800 staff and oversee a diverse portfolio including domestic, portering, catering, linen, waste, transport and accommodation services.
You will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of safe, effective and high-quality services that support patient care, patient experience and operational performance. The role provides leadership across governance, compliance, financial management, service improvement and workforce development, ensuring services meet national standards and regulatory requirements.
The Assistant Director of Facilities Management provides strategic and operational leadership for Facilities Management services across Lancashire Teaching Hospitals. Leading a workforce of approximately 800 staff, the post holder is responsible for domestic, portering, patient and retail catering, linen, transport, waste and accommodation services, ensuring they are safe, efficient, patient-focused and compliant with all relevant legislation and NHS standards. As a senior member of the Estates and Facilities Leadership Team, the post holder will support the delivery of organisational objectives through effective service planning, performance management and continuous improvement.
They will provide expert advice to Executive Directors, clinicians and operational leaders, ensuring high-quality healthcare environments that support excellent patient outcomes and experience. The role will lead governance, risk management, business continuity and compliance arrangements, while driving transformation, efficiency and service improvement programmes across the portfolio. The post holder will manage a revenue budget of approximately £28 million, ensuring effective financial control and delivery of value for money.
They will also oversee regulatory reporting, support inspections and deputise for the Director of Estates and Facilities, contributing to the strategic development of Estates and Facilities services across One LSC and Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.

Reporting directly to the Director of Estates and Facilities, the post holder will provide visible leadership across a diverse portfolio of critical support services, ensuring they are safe, efficient, patient-focused and fully compliant with all statutory and regulatory requirements.
The post holder will lead the delivery of Domestic Services, Portering Services, Patient Catering Services, Retail Catering Services, Linen Services, Transport Services, Waste Services and General Office and Accommodation Services across the Trust. They will be accountable for ensuring these services consistently meet national standards, organisational objectives and the needs of patients, visitors and staff. A key responsibility of the role is providing leadership to a large and diverse workforce of approximately 800 staff.
The Assistant Director will create a culture of high performance, accountability and continuous improvement, ensuring staff are supported, developed and empowered to deliver high-quality services. The role will have overall responsibility for workforce planning, succession planning, performance management and organisational development across Facilities Management services. The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing and maintaining effective governance arrangements to provide assurance that all Facilities Management services are safe, compliant and fit for purpose.
They will ensure compliance with national standards relating to healthcare cleanliness, food and drink services, and healthcare portering, together with all relevant health and safety legislation and NHS guidance. The role will also oversee risk management processes, business continuity arrangements and emergency planning for critical services. The Assistant Director will lead the monitoring and reporting of service performance, ensuring robust systems are in place to measure quality, productivity and compliance.
They will be accountable for delivering key organisational performance indicators and overseeing improvement plans where standards fall below expectations. The post holder will also lead and coordinate corporate reporting requirements, including PLACE assessments, PAM returns, ERIC submissions, Freedom of Information requests and support for regulatory inspections.
