Manufacturing Technician

As a Manufacturing Technician, you will support the manufacture, assembly and finishing of high-quality hydrodynamic engineering models and propulsion solutions, tooling, prototypes, research models and test articles using a range of composite, metallic, polymeric and timber-based materials. Day-to-day, you’ll work within a multi-disciplinary engineering and manufacturing environment, you will contribute to the delivery of customer programmes through safe, efficient and high-quality manufacturing activities, supporting the production of bespoke and low-volume products to demanding quality, dimensional and schedule requirements.

You will work closely with engineers, designers and technical specialists to manufacture components and assemblies in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications and manufacturing instructions.

• Manufacturing, assembling and finishing composite and non-composite components in accordance with engineering drawings and work instructions
• Supporting production of research models, prototypes, tooling and test articles to defined quality and dimensional requirements (includes hydrodynamic models)
• Working with a range of materials including Glass fibre composites (GRP), Carbon fibre composites, Timber and engineered woods, Plastics and polymers and Metals
• Safely use hand tools, power tools and workshop machinery
• Preparing materials, moulds, tooling and equipment for manufacture
• Carrying out dimensional inspection and verification activities using standard measuring equipment
• Practical manufacturing experience within a workshop, engineering or production environment
• Working with composite materials and associated manufacturing processes
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, manufacturing instructions and technical documentation
• Using hand tools, power tools and workshop machinery safely and effectively
• Attention to detail and ability to work to defined tolerances and quality standards
• Experience with in marine, aerospace, defence, automotive or research and development environments (desirable), Advanced Apprenticeship in a manufacturing, engineering or technical discipline
• NVQ Level 3 in Engineering Manufacture or equivalent
• Level 3 Engineering qualification or equivalent practical experience
• Relevant trade apprenticeship
