We are seeking experienced and newly qualified midwives to join our dedicated team at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.

As a valued member of our team, you will help make a real difference in the lives of mothers and babies. Experienced midwives will receive comprehensive orientation before joining our Band 6 rotation, while newly qualified midwives will be welcomed into our Band 5 preceptorship programme. Upon successful completion, you will progress to the Band 6 rotation.

All overseas applicants who do not have NMC registration allowing them to practice as a midwife in the UK will not be shortlisted.

As part of our team, your duties will include, but not be limited to: assisting and supporting the lead midwife in the safe and effective management of the area, including personnel, facilities, and associated systems. Serving as a role model, presenting a positive image of self, team, and the organisation; coordinating and delivering care through appropriate professional practice, delegation, and supervision.

Ensuring a high standard of midwifery care is delivered based on assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, in accordance with local and national standards and evidence‑based guidelines. Setting, monitoring, and maintaining standards of care to enhance patient experience and outcomes. Proactively managing risk. Communicating relevant information to the multidisciplinary team and external organisations. Promoting education and health promotion while advocating for equality in care and practice.

Ensuring the care environment is safe, well‑equipped, and compliant with hygiene and cleanliness standards.

Work across all areas of our service, including:

• Freestanding and alongside birth centres.
• Obstetric delivery suite.
• Maternity assessment suite.
• Antenatal clinics.
• Community services and home birth team.
• Antenatal and postnatal wards.
• Theatre.

Collaborate closely with specialist teams, including:

• Enhanced support midwifery team.
• Antenatal screening team.
• Research and development team.
• Rainbow team.
• Diabetes specialist continuity of carer team.
• Digital team.

• Awareness of changes within Midwifery practice.
• Evidence of continuing professional development.
• Able to manage/treat obstetric emergencies in hospital/birth unit and community setting.
• Knowledge of Clinical Governance and the relevance to practice.
• Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures.
• Maintains own reflective practice.
• Demonstrates effective listening and communication skills.
• Confident in teaching and assessing student midwives, midwives, and doctors.
• Experience in IV additives, venipuncture and cannulation, perineal suturing.
• Knowledge of leadership and management.
• Evidence of clinical competence in area of specialty.
• Experience of high dependency care.

• Appropriate NMC registration.
• NMC recognised Mentorship qualification or willingness to work towards, following 18 months commencement in post.
• Evidence of continuing education or development since qualifying.
• Degree.

£32,073 to £48,117 a year, per annum pro rata.
