The Senior Nurse supports the Clinical Team Leader in coordinating and delivering high-quality care in line with national and local District Nursing priorities. The role includes assessing new and complex patients and completing comprehensive Senior Nurse Reviews in patients' homes and other community settings. You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective, and personalised care. A key aspect of the role is supporting students and newly appointed staff, contributing to their learning and development, and helping to build a confident, skilled team through effective leadership and positive role modelling.

You will also oversee staffing rotas, allocate clinical work, and maintain clear, compassionate communication with colleagues, patients, and families. The post includes participation in the District Nursing Hub, providing weekend, evening, and bank holiday cover on a rotational basis. You must be able to work contracted hours flexibly across both day and night shifts to meet service needs. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong professional leadership and a genuine commitment to excellent patient care.

You will need to be confident in problem-solving, adaptable in challenging situations, and capable of managing resources effectively. A dedication to high-quality care, along with the confidence to positively challenge practice to maintain patient and staff safety, is essential.

  • Community Specialist Practitioner Qualification or willingness to work towards this
Desirable criteria
  • Non-medical prescriber V100/V150/V300
  • Leadership training
  • Level 6 study to support service delivery and development
  • Mentorship or Coaching qualification, Substantial district nursing experience
  • Experience in holistic assessment of complex patients and care coordination
  • Experience of multidisciplinary team working

  • Experience of service development/supporting change in practice, Ability to use information technology effectively
