Casual Recruitment.
Working on an 'as and when required' basis.
To start 31st March 2026.
Location:
Prestongrange Museum.
- Open and close the visitor centre and manage daily start‑up and close‑down tasks.
- Run the shop and café, process sales and maintain stock levels.
- Welcome visitors, answer enquiries, provide information and ensure a friendly, safe environment.
- Assist with school visits, special groups, activities, events and exhibitions.
- Support the cleaning and maintenance of the Visitor Centre and Activity Room.
- In summer 2026, facilitate events by booking, setting up and clearing the new Volunteer Base and Activity Room.
- Work shifts on a casual basis (10.45‑4.45 with a 30‑minute lunch break, Monday‑Sunday, with weekend availability preferred).
Assist in the delivery of museum services across East Lothian, maximising the efficiency of service delivery within established standards and in accordance with Council policies and plans, with a commitment to best value.

Relevant Qualifications- A minimum of National 4 English/Maths or Literacy/Numeracy or Intermediate 1 Communication/Numeracy or SVQ1/Standard Grade General level English/Maths and/or evidence of equivalent knowledge, skills and competencies gained through relevant experience.
This post is considered a Regulated Role involving vulnerable children and/or protected adults, as specified in the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020. All preferred candidates must become a PVG Scheme member, or have a current PVG Scheme update, before any formal offer of employment is made. The PVG member's records are constantly updated with new vetting information. If you have spent more than 3 months working or living outside the UK in the last 5 years, you will be required to present a copy of an overseas criminal record check.
