Job Summary
The maintenance fitter is responsible for assisting with the planned and reactive maintenance of site plant and equipment.
Responsibilities- Prioritise reactive maintenance activities in conjunction with line management and the site’s CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System) and attend accordingly.
- Carry out planned maintenance activities on site plant and equipment in accordance with the sites’ preventative maintenance schedules & CMMS.
- Fault‑find and diagnose faults on site plant and equipment, utilising technical drawings, manuals, PLC/CNC applications where required.
- Fault‑find to component level.
- Assist in the planning and implementation of site‑specific project works.
- Relocate plant and equipment when applicable.
- Use and operate site‑powered vehicles.
- Adhere to safe systems of work, including the site’s LOTO (Lock Out Tag Out) procedures.
- Provide on‑the‑job training and guidance to develop F&M apprentice mechanics.
- Order breakdown parts or spares through the Maintenance office, providing detailed information as required.
- Work with contractors and suppliers when necessary.
- Provide temporary Lead Mechanic cover when required.
- Carry out statutory inspections of plant and machinery.
- Completed a recognised mechanical engineering apprenticeship (trade papers required).
- Strong problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings and manuals.
- Ability to work as part of a team or independently.
- Can balance varying workloads and priorities to meet business needs in a fast‑paced and diverse environment.
- Computer literate and possessing good verbal and written communication skills.
- Recent mechanical maintenance experience within an industrial environment.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems.
