Auditing vs Accounting Practice Experience
- Reviews and tests work already captured by someone else
- Performs substantive testing, internal control evaluation and sampling
- Focuses on verification rather than construction of financial records
- Builds and reconciles financial records from source documents
- Processes full workflow:
Source Documents → Trial Balance → Financial Statements - Produces monthly management accounts and maintains continuous ledger integrity
- Auditing Practice
- Primarily Case Ware and audit working paper suites
- Daily fluency in Draftworx
, Pastel Partner
, Sage Online
, and live client payroll systems - Requires comfort switching between multiple platforms in real time
- Auditing Practice
- Typically works on one large client for several weeks during an audit cycle
- Actively manages 30–50 SME client portfolios every month
- Handles recurring VAT cycles, PAYE, payroll recons, management accounts, and ad‑hoc client queries
- Requires autonomous, high‑volume, high‑accuracy output
- Auditing Practice
- Mostly academic or limited to annual tax provisions and audit samples
- Hands‑on SARS dispute resolution
- VAT verifications, payroll recons, audit defense
- Drafting and managing Notices of Objection (NOO) and supporting documentation
