FACULTY OF HUMANITIES
DEPARTMENT OF ANTHROPOLOGY, ARCHAEOLOGY AND DEVELOPMENT STUDIES
ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR
The University of Pretoria's commitment to quality makes us one of the top research universities in the country and gives us a competitive advantage in international science and technology development.
The Department of Anthropology, Archaeology and Development Studies is a multidisciplinary department in the Faculty of Humanities. As one of the fastest growing departments in the Faculty, the Department offers programmes at undergraduate (Anthropology and Archaeology) and postgraduate (Anthropology, Archaeology, and Development Studies) levels. The combination of programmes in Anthropology, Archaeology, and Development Studies provides innovative and insightful opportunities for research as well as teaching and learning.
The Department is a unique academic space where key socio-political and economic challenges experienced across the African continent and beyond are addressed. How change manifests across time and into the future informs the ethos of this Department. Students at both undergraduate and postgraduate level are taught to analyse complex data, interpret material, and conduct ethnographic fieldwork to understand how people live/d in different social and cultural settings in Africa and beyond.
These aspects are key to a vibrant transdisciplinary research programme and to developing well-rounded researchers and individuals.
