Position - Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
Location - Cape Town
The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the delivery of accurate, professional and compliant design deliverables using Company approved systems and procedures.
Responsibilities (including but not limited to):- Manage multiple tasks and prioritise where necessary to achieve agreed deliverables to a high level of accuracy and professionalism.
- Perform accurate engineering mechanical and piping design and calculations.
- Interpret engineering drawings, documents, specifications and scopes.
- Liaise with and provide professional support to draughting team in the preparation of drawing.
- Inter-disciplinary co-ordination of technical aspects of the design.
- Develop technical documentation including scopes of work and specifications using relevant industry standards and guidelines.
- Produce accurate engineering lists including but not limited to: equipment, lubrication, spares, valves, pipeline and special items.
- Provide accurate material take-offs as and when required.
- Compile tender technical pack and provide technical recommendations for the procurement of equipment, bulk supplies and construction contracts.
- Assist with the provision of engineering documentation in relation to scope, quantities, cost and.
- Review vendor certified documentation and disseminate the information to the appropriate personnel for interface checking.
- Maintain an understanding of the latest developments to Industry and Project specific codes, standards and related engineering matters.
- Participate in the development of a safe and healthy workplace
- Comply with instructions given for your own safety and health and that of others, in adhering to
- Complete mandatory training in accordance with your position, within nominated time frames.
- Co-operate with management in its fulfilment of its legislative obligations.
Tertiary level qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
- At least 7 years’ relevant experience, preferably in a minerals processing or projects environment.
- Technical background with a broad multi-disciplinary base, preferably in minerals processing plants / infrastructure construction.
Solid technical aptitude, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision whilst consistently producing a high quality of deliverables, within budget and schedule constraints.
- Demonstrate an ability to work autonomously and collaboratively with colleagues across all business units.
- Provide mentoring and identify avenues of professional development and succession planning for personnel within your business unit.
- Demonstrated ability to achieve consistently high standards within both budgetary and schedule constraints.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
