About the Role
Our client, a leader in sustainable water and wastewater treatment solutions, is seeking a Project & Process Engineer to join their engineering team. This hybrid role combines project management responsibilities with process engineering, ensuring designs translate seamlessly into practical execution, commissioning, optimization, and long-term operational performance. Based primarily out of the Pretoria office, with occasional presence in Witbank and travel across South Africa and Africa, this role is ideal for a proactive engineer who enjoys both detailed design work and hands-on project execution.
You will lead project delivery while providing process design, optimization, and operational support to ensure water and wastewater treatment plants operate efficiently and sustainably. (Own Vehicle and valid license mandatory)
What you’ll be doing
Primary Function – Project Engineering
- Manage end-to-end project execution across South Africa and Africa.
- Coordinate engineering, procurement, fabrication, transport, installation, and commissioning.
- Maintain detailed project schedules, hold points, and procurement trackers.
- Interpret and enforce PFDs, P&IDs, fabrication drawings, civil layouts, and specifications.
- Manage QA/QC, FAT/SAT, inspections, and compliance.
- Monitor budgets, margins, and progress payments.
- Conduct weekly client updates and technical meetings.
- Identify risks early and implement corrective actions.
- Design IFAS/MB , M , filtration, RO, and disinfection systems.
- Conduct mass balances, process modelling, hydraulic assessments, and biological sizing.
- Interpret raw water and wastewater lab results.
- Prepare process design packs, datasheets, and technical documents.
- Ensure compliance with SANS 241, GA/Special Limits, municipal bylaws, and NWA.
- Support operations through troubleshooting and optimization.
- Develop efficiency improvements and process enhancements.
- Attend engineering design reviews, project team meetings, procurement progress discussions, and weekly internal coordination sessions.
- Travel to project sites for client meetings, site assessments, installation oversight, commissioning support, and operations handovers.
- Frequent visits to the Witbank workshop for fabrication inspection, assembly quality monitoring, dispatch readiness, and resolution of engineering-to-fabrication queries.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Civil, or Environmental Engineering.
- 3 – 7 years’ experience in water/wastewater process design and project execution.
- Strong knowledge of biological treatment, filtration, disinfection, and membranes.
- Skilled in CAD, process simulation tools, and MS Project.
- Strong organisational, planning, and communication skills.
- South African
- Own vehicle and valid license
- Competitive salary package CTC Banding: R360 000 – R696 000 (based on experience and qualification)
