Chief Surveyor - Mining

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly competent and experienced Chief Surveyor to oversee all surveying activities for their operations in Pretoria . This senior role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of all spatial data generated on-site, which is critical for mine planning, construction, and operational control. You will manage a team of surveyors, implement advanced surveying technologies, and ensure compliance with national and international surveying standards within the mining industry .

This is a key position requiring meticulous attention to detail and a deep understanding of the unique challenges of surveying in a mining environment.

• Manage and execute all topographic, cadastral, and construction surveying tasks for the mine site.
• Operate and maintain advanced surveying equipment, including GPS, total stations, and laser scanners.
• Process and analyze survey data, generating accurate maps, models, and reports for engineering and planning purposes.
• Ensure adherence to legal survey requirements and company standards for all survey activities.
• Supervise, train, and mentor junior surveying staff, fostering a culture of precision and safety.
• Collaborate with mine planners, engineers, and geologists to provide essential spatial data for operational decision-making.

• National Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Surveying or Geomatics.
• Professional registration with the relevant surveying body (e.g., PLATO).
• Minimum of 8 years of post-qualification experience, with significant exposure to mining surveying .
• Proficiency in surveying software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Leica Geo Office, or similar.
• Experience with drone surveying and LiDAR data acquisition and processing is highly desirable.
• Strong leadership and project management skills, with excellent attention to detail.
