Geotechnical Engineer - Foundation Design Specialist

About the Role

Our client is seeking a meticulous Geotechnical Engineer to join their established team in Pretoria. This role focuses on investigating subsurface conditions and providing expert recommendations for foundation design and earthworks for a wide range of construction projects. You will be responsible for site investigations, laboratory testing coordination, and developing robust geotechnical solutions that ensure the stability and safety of structures.

• Plan and execute geotechnical investigations, including drilling, trial pits, and in-situ testing.
• Analyze soil and rock mechanics data to determine engineering properties and identify potential geotechnical hazards.
• Design foundations, retaining walls, and earthworks, ensuring stability and performance under expected loads.
• Prepare comprehensive geotechnical reports detailing findings, analyses, and recommendations for design and construction teams.
• Liaise with clients, structural engineers, and contractors to provide technical support and address geotechnical challenges during project execution.
• Ensure all designs and recommendations comply with relevant South African National Standards (SANS) and industry best practices.

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Geotechnical Engineering.
• Professional registration as Pr Eng with ECSA is required.
• At least 6 years of relevant experience in geotechnical investigation and foundation design.
• Proficiency in geotechnical software for analysis and modeling (e.g., PLAXIS, Geo Studio).
• Experience in interpreting site investigation data and recommending appropriate ground improvement techniques.
• Strong report writing skills and the ability to communicate complex technical information clearly.
