About the Role
Our client, a significant contributor to the national energy grid , is seeking a skilled Substation Engineer to join their team in Pretoria . This role is central to the design, operation, and maintenance of high-voltage electrical substations that are vital for power transmission and distribution. You will be involved in ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of our substation infrastructure, playing a key part in maintaining a stable power supply.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with specialized knowledge in substation technology to contribute to critical infrastructure development and operation in South Africa's capital city.
- Design, specify, and oversee the construction and commissioning of new electrical substations and upgrades.
- Perform detailed engineering calculations, including load flow, short circuit, and protection coordination studies.
- Develop technical specifications for substation equipment such as transformers, switch gear, and circuit breakers.
- Ensure that substation designs comply with all relevant industry standards, codes, and safety regulations.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose faults in substation systems and equipment, recommending and implementing solutions.
- Manage substation maintenance programs and asset management strategies to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in substation engineering, design, and operation within the power utility or energy sector .
- Strong understanding of high-voltage equipment , protection relays, and SCADA systems.
- Proficiency in substation design software and simulation tools.
- Experience with grid interconnection standards and regulatory requirements.
- Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng) registration is a significant advantage.
