About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Geotechnical Engineer to ensure the stability and safety of their mining operations near Pretoria . This role is essential for assessing ground conditions, designing support systems, and mitigating risks associated with slope stability, underground excavations, and tailings management. You will work closely with mine planning and operations teams to provide critical geotechnical expertise, ensuring that all activities are conducted with the highest safety standards.

This is a field-intensive role requiring a strong understanding of rock mechanics and soil engineering principles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct detailed geotechnical investigations and site characterization studies.
  • Perform stability analyses for open-pit slopes, underground excavations, and tailings storage facilities.
  • Design and recommend appropriate ground support systems and reinforcement methods.
  • Develop and implement geotechnical monitoring programs to assess ground conditions and performance.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to mine operations and engineering departments.
  • Prepare geotechnical reports, drawings, and specifications for mine infrastructure and operations.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Mining Engineering with a geotechnical specialization.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering, preferably within the mining sector.
  • Proficiency in geotechnical analysis software (e.g., Rocscience suite, Slide).
  • Strong understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and foundation engineering principles.
  • Experience with site investigations, including drilling, sampling, and in-situ testing.
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills.
