Our client is seeking a skilled Mineral Processing Engineer to join their team in Pretoria. This role is central to optimizing the recovery and quality of valuable minerals from mined ore through efficient comminution, concentration, and recovery circuits. You will be responsible for process design, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives to maximize yield and minimize operational costs. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer passionate about hydrometallurgy and pyrometallurgy to make a significant impact on a major mining operation in Gauteng, contributing to sustainable and profitable mineral extraction.
Key Responsibilities- Design, operate, and optimize mineral processing circuits, including crushing, grinding, flotation, leaching, and smelting.
- Conduct test work and pilot plant studies to evaluate new process technologies and improve existing operations.
- Troubleshoot process upsets, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to ensure efficient production.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and develop strategies for improving mineral recovery and grade.
- Collaborate with metallurgists, geologists, and plant operators to achieve production targets.
- Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations within the processing plant.
- Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in mineral processing plant operations and design.
- Strong understanding of comminution, separation, and recovery technologies for various commodities.
- Experience with process simulation software (e.g., METSIM, JKSimMet).
- Proven ability to troubleshoot and optimize complex processing circuits.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
