Senior Grid Integration Engineer; Energy Storage

Our client, a prominent player in the Energy sector, is looking for a Senior Grid Integration Engineer specializing in Energy Storage to join their innovative team in Pretoria, Gauteng . This role is critical in ensuring the stable and efficient integration of renewable energy sources and battery energy storage systems (BESS) into the national grid. You will be instrumental in developing advanced grid integration solutions, performing complex power system analyses, and ensuring compliance with grid codes and standards.

• Analyze and design grid interconnection schemes for renewable energy projects and energy storage systems.
• Perform power system studies, including load flow, short circuit, transient stability, and harmonic analysis.
• Develop and validate control strategies for grid-connected energy storage systems.
• Ensure compliance with grid codes, utility interconnection requirements, and relevant industry standards.
• Collaborate with project development teams, engineering consultants, and utility engineers.
• Provide technical expertise during the design, procurement, and commissioning phases of projects.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to grid integration and energy storage systems.
• Stay abreast of evolving grid technologies, regulations, and market trends.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the technical development of the team.
• Prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations.

• Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power Systems.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in power system analysis and grid integration, with a focus on energy storage systems.
• Strong knowledge of grid codes, interconnection standards, and power system protection.
• Proficiency in power system simulation software such as PSS/E, PSCAD, ETAP, or similar.
• Experience with battery energy storage systems (BESS), including PCS and BMS integration.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid work environment, balancing remote and office-based tasks.
• Experience collaborating with utilities and regulatory bodies.
• Familiarity with renewable energy technologies (solar, wind) is a plus.
• Based in or willing to commute to Pretoria, Gauteng for hybrid work requirements.
