Senior Bridge Engineer - Design & Construction Oversight

An established engineering consultancy in Pretoria is seeking a Senior Bridge Engineer to take a leading role in the design and construction oversight of significant bridge projects across Gauteng. This position requires a candidate with exceptional technical expertise in bridge engineering, a proven track record in managing complex projects, and strong leadership capabilities. You will be responsible for the complete lifecycle of bridge projects, from conceptual design and detailed analysis to construction supervision, ensuring safety, durability, and cost-effectiveness.

• Lead the structural design and analysis of various bridge types (e.g., concrete, steel, composite).
• Conduct feasibility studies and conceptual design for new bridge projects.
• Prepare detailed design calculations, drawings, and specifications.
• Oversee construction activities, ensuring adherence to design specifications and quality standards.
• Conduct site inspections and provide technical guidance to construction teams.
• Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, clients, and regulatory authorities.
• Manage project schedules, budgets, and resources effectively.
• Mentor and supervise junior bridge engineers and technicians.
• Perform safety assessments and rehabilitation designs for existing bridges.
• Review and approve shop drawings and construction methodologies.

• BEng/BSc in Civil Engineering.
• Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) registration with ECSA is essential.
• Minimum of 8 years of specialized experience in bridge engineering.
• Extensive knowledge of bridge design principles, materials, and construction techniques.
• Proficiency in bridge design software (e.g., MIDAS Civil, CSiBridge, AutoCAD) and finite element analysis.
• Familiarity with South African National Standards (SANS) for bridges and relevant international codes.
• Strong project management and leadership skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
• Experience in bridge inspection and rehabilitation is an advantage.
