The Finance Business Partner – South Africa and Rest of Africa (RoA) provides regional financial oversight and business partnering support across African operations, including Guinea, DRC, Tanzania, Ghana, Namibia, and other African jurisdictions. The role focuses on delivering commercial insight, ensuring financial control, and supporting sustainable growth in complex, multi-country environments.
This role requires strong technical ability, adaptability, and the ability to operate effectively across diverse regulatory, cultural, and operational contexts.
Duties & ResponsibilitiesRegional Business Partnering
- Act as the primary finance partner for African operations outside South Africa.
- Support Country Managers and regional leadership with financial insight and analysis.
- Review and challenge business cases, capex proposals, and expansion initiatives.
- Support start-ups, scaling operations, and turnaround initiatives where required.
- Consolidate and review monthly management results from African entities.
- Analyse performance, risks, and trends across multiple countries.
- Ensure consistency of reporting, KPIs, and financial standards across the region.
- Identify risks relating to cash flow, FX exposure, margins, and cost control.
- Monitor and forecast cash flow at country and regional level.
- Identify and manage liquidity risks, including funding gaps and cash traps.
- Support treasury-related activities, including:
- Cash repatriation and dividend planning
- FX exposure identification and mitigation
- Intercompany funding and settlements
- Work with operations to improve working capital discipline in high-risk environments.
- Escalate and manage cash flow risks related to receivables, contract terms, and country-specific challenges.
- Coordinate budgets and forecasts across multiple African operations.
- Challenge assumptions and ensure forecasts reflect country-specific realities.
- Support scenario modelling for currency volatility, inflation, and political risk.
- Ensure adherence to group financial policies and IFRS and/or OHADA.
- Strengthen financial controls in developing or high-risk environments.
- Support external audits across multiple jurisdictions.
- Monitor compliance with local statutory, tax, and regulatory requirements (with in-country support).
- Build effective working relationships with Country Managers and in-country service providers.
- Communicate complex financial matters clearly across language, cultural, and geographic barriers.
- Present consolidated regional performance to senior management and Exco.
- Travel to African operations as required.
- BCom (Accounting / Finance / Management Accounting) or similar essential.
- Professional qualification would be an advantage: CA(SA), CIMA, ACCA or similar.
- 5–10+ years’ finance experience, including multi-country or regional exposure.
- Experience working in Africa outside South Africa strongly advantageous.
- Strong understanding of FX, cross-border transactions, and emerging market risk.
- Strong technical accounting and analytical skills.
- High level of resilience, adaptability, and cultural awareness.
- Ability to operate independently in ambiguous and complex environments.
- Strong influencing skills.
- Willingness to travel when required.
