About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Data Scientist with a specialization in Genomics to join their esteemed research team in Durban . This role involves leading the analysis of large-scale genomic datasets to uncover insights into disease mechanisms and identify potential therapeutic targets. You will be responsible for developing sophisticated analytical models, implementing cutting-edge computational methods, and collaborating closely with a multidisciplinary team of biologists, bioinformaticians, and clinicians.

- Design, develop, and implement advanced statistical and machine learning models for genomic data analysis.
- Analyze large-scale genomic datasets, including whole-genome sequencing, exome sequencing, and RNA-seq data.
- Collaborate with biological researchers to interpret findings and translate them into actionable hypotheses.
- Develop data visualization tools and dashboards to communicate complex results effectively.
- Contribute to the development of research strategies and the identification of new research opportunities.
- Mentor junior data scientists and contribute to the team's overall technical expertise.
- Master's or Ph.D. degree in Data Science, Statistics, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
- 5+ years of professional experience in data science, with a significant focus on genomics research.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, and experience with relevant libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, Tensor Flow, PyTorch).
- Strong understanding of statistical genetics, population genetics, and common genomic data analysis pipelines.
- Experience with cloud computing environments (e.g., AWS, Azure) and big data technologies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration within the Durban research hub.
