Position: Clinical Nurse (R/N) - Experienced - Cathlab

The Professional Nurse/Clinical Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning and implementation of individualized, holistic and person‑centered nursing care for patients, their families, and the community. The role involves direct or indirect patient care and coordination within a multidisciplinary health team, using evidence‑based nursing theories and processes to treat patients as physical, social and spiritual individuals.

CONSISTENCY OF CARE
  • Serve as a clinical resource in assisting personnel to assess, plan, implement, evaluate and document nursing care in the unit.
  • Ensure communication and interaction with family and health professionals regarding optimal patient care, acting as a patient advocate when needed.
  • Facilitate communication between nursing management and the unit to eliminate patient‑care problems and issues.
  • Assess, plan, and implement advanced nursing care in a specialized field in accordance with standard nursing procedures, SOPs, and nursing theory.
  • Initiate, direct and maintain emergency treatment (RESUS) as required, diagnosing and treating emergency patients quickly, effectively and efficiently.
Scope of Practice
  • Interview patients and families to obtain relevant background information and identify problems; evaluate patient behaviour and assess immediate and long‑term needs.
  • Participate as a professional member of the multidisciplinary team to evaluate, develop and implement health‑care plans and treatment regimes.
  • Do rounds with physicians and medical practitioners to review patient conditions, develop nursing care plans, and participate in the care of all patients in the unit.
  • Evaluate patients’ care needs; initiate individualized nursing care plans; coordinate patient services.
  • Prepare day/night shift documentation reflecting patient status, staffing ratios, and problems.
  • Communicate with the unit manager to keep them informed of activities and problems.
  • Perform any related tasks as requested.
Policy and Procedure Development

Provide input and standards in formulating patient‐care policy and procedures within the hospital.

Quality and Risk Management
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Optimize and maintain quality, effective, and safe nursing care within the assigned budget.
  • Evaluate, set standards, and monitor safe utilization of supplies and equipment.

Actively participate as a team member to achieve goals, collaborate with other hospital departments, and provide appropriate support services.

Education and Training Facilitation
  • Coordinate with the Clinical Facilitation Department and multidisciplinary team to meet ongoing educational needs of nursing staff, students, and patients.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate mentoring and learning opportunities for nursing staff and students.
  • Oversee ongoing review, practice, and in‑service training of emergency procedures.
  • Participate in in‑service training and orientation of new staff in the unit.
  • Advise and inform staff on current and revised policies and procedures.
Resource Allocation
  • Allocate staff members to promote optimal use of resources and provide appropriate nursing care for individual patients based on their needs and staff expertise.
  • Adjust staffing levels to meet acuity needs.
Personal and Professional Development
  • Actively engage in personal professional development to maintain a satisfactory level of skill and knowledge.
  • Stay updated with Netcare’s evolving policies and procedures.
Build and Maintain Stakeholder Relationships
  • Work effectively and cooperatively with others to establish and maintain mutually beneficial relationships.
  • Develop collaborative relationships to accomplish work goals.
  • Maintain and encourage effective communication and interaction within the unit, other multidisciplinary team members, and the public.
