Registered Nurse ICU Trained

Netcare invites you to join our team as a Professional Nurse/Clinical Nurse. The role requires a post‑basic qualification and involves assessment, planning and implementation of holistic, person‑centred nursing care, either directly or indirectly.

• Serve as a clinical resource assisting personnel to assess, plan, implement, evaluate and document nursing care within the unit.
• Ensure effective communication with families and other health professionals, acting as patient advocate when necessary.
• Maintain open communication between nursing management and unit staff to eliminate patient care problems.
• Assess, plan and implement advanced nursing care in a specialised field following standard procedures, SOPs, nursing theory and medical direction.
• Initiate, direct and maintain emergency treatment (RESUS) for patients in any ward or department.
• Diagnose and treat emergency patients quickly, effectively and efficiently within scope of practice.
• Interview patients and families to gather background information, identify problems, evaluate behaviours and assess immediate and long‑term needs.
• Collaborate as a professional member of the multidisciplinary team to evaluate, develop and implement health‑care plans and treatment regimes.
• Participate in rounds with physicians to review patient condition, develop nursing care plans and support all patients in the unit.
• Prepare day/night shift documentation reflecting patient status, staff ratios and identified problems.
• Communicate with the unit manager regarding activities and problems.
• Support formulation of patient‑care policy and procedures.
• Maintain a safe, clean, secure environment for patients, staff and visitors.
• Optimize and maintain quality, effective and safe nursing care within the assigned budget.
• Evaluate, set standards and monitor safe utilisation of supplies and equipment.
• Actively participate in team initiatives to achieve goals and provide ongoing review, practice and in‑service training of emergency procedures.
• Co‑operate with Clinical Facilitation Department and other departments to provide support services and meet educational needs of nursing staff and students.
• Mentor and evaluate learning experiences for nursing staff and students.
• Assist in orientation of new staff and advise on current and revised policies and procedures.
• Allocate staff appropriately to meet acuity level needs and promote optimal use of staff skills.
• Maintain professional development to keep skills and knowledge satisfactory.
• Collaborate with others to establish good working relationships and maintain effective communication within the unit and with the public.

• Registered as a Professional Nurse with the South African Nursing Council and holding a post‑basic qualification.
• Thorough knowledge of general and specialised nursing theory and practice.
• Extensive knowledge of modern nursing care principles and practices in the highly specialised field of intensive‑care nursing.
