Responsibilities- The incumbent will be responsible for managing the staff, equipment, sports fields, and resources of Landscape Services and Sports Fields Management. Ensure that the focus on National and International Sports Fields and Landscape activities and developments are beneficial to the University in all aspects relevant to this institution to enhance its position as the " Sporting Powerhouse " globally.
- A relevant National 3-Year Diploma with at least two (2) years’ relevant experience in landscaping; OR
- Grade 12 with at least four (4) years’ relevant experience in landscaping.
- The incumbent must have a minimum of experience as follows:
- 2 years’ experience in an institute of higher education (applicable to candidates with a Diploma);
- 4 years’ experience in Human Resources Management and supervision;
- 4 years’ experience working in a horticultural or landscape environment;
- 4 years’ experience in establishing landscapes and gardens;
- 4 years’ experience in turf management;
- 4 years’ experience in the maintenance of all aspects of turf and gardens.
- Knowledge of plant and turf care;
- Knowledge of irrigation requirements;
- Knowledge of managing staff;
- Knowledge of health and safety requirements;
- Knowledge of equipment and tools;
- Knowledge of environmental requirements;
- Maintenance of gardens and turf;
- Ability to identify equipment and materials for maintaining gardens and turf;
- Knowledge of chemicals and hazardous substances;
- Ability to interact with clients and the general University community;
- Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with others to encourage and support communication and teamwork;
- Ability to convey information clearly and concisely;
- Ability to adjust effectively to work within new work structures, processes, requirements, or cultures;
- Skill and ability in coordinating, facilitating, and participating in a collaborative approach to the completion of tasks or assignments;
- Ability to be relied upon to ensure that projects within areas of responsibility are completed in a timely manner;
- Ability to remain flexible to meet constantly changing and sometimes opposing demands;
- Ability to be proactive;
- Ability to motivate and engage employees through effective communication.
- 2–4 years’ experience in Occupational Health and Safety training;
- 2–4 years’ experience in the use of landscape and turf equipment;
- 4 years’ experience in irrigation systems and landscape planning;
- A valid driver’s license;
- Horticultural Certificate or Diploma.
PLEASE NOTE:

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
