About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly motivated Senior Bioinformatician to join their dynamic Translational Research department in Pretoria . This role is crucial for bridging the gap between basic research findings and clinical applications, analyzing complex biological data to drive therapeutic advancements. You will work collaboratively with experimental biologists, clinicians, and data scientists to interpret high-throughput sequencing data, identify biomarkers, and contribute to the development of new diagnostic tools and treatments.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong analytical mindset, deep technical expertise in bioinformatics, and a passion for impacting patient outcomes through data-driven insights in a hybrid work model.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement robust bioinformatics pipelines for the analysis of next-generation sequencing (NGS) data, including RNA-Seq, WGS, and ChIP-Seq.
  • Perform statistical analysis and data mining to identify potential biomarkers for disease diagnosis and prognosis.
  • Collaborate with clinical teams to integrate genomic data with clinical phenotypes and patient outcomes.
  • Design and conduct computational experiments to support hypothesis generation and validation in translational studies.
  • Develop and maintain databases and data management strategies for complex biological datasets.
  • Present research findings to internal teams, collaborators, and at scientific meetings.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. or Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in bioinformatics, with a focus on translational or clinical research.
  • Proven expertise in analyzing large-scale genomic and transcriptomic datasets.
  • Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in bioinformatics, such as Python, R, or Perl.
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker).
  • Strong understanding of statistical methods and machine learning techniques applicable to biological data.
