Senior Research Scientist - Drug Discovery

About the Role

Our client is looking for an experienced Senior Research Scientist to drive innovation in Drug Discovery at their facility in Pretoria . This role is central to identifying and developing novel therapeutic compounds. You will lead experimental design, execute critical assays, and interpret complex data to advance drug candidates through the discovery pipeline. Collaborating closely with a multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to shaping the company's therapeutic strategy.

The hybrid nature of this role allows for flexibility, combining essential on-site laboratory work with periods of remote data analysis and project planning.

• Design and execute high-throughput screening (HTS) campaigns and secondary assays.
• Conduct hit-to-lead optimization studies, investigating structure-activity relationships (SAR).
• Develop and validate biochemical and cell-based assays for target validation and compound profiling.
• Collaborate with computational chemists and pharmacologists to advance lead compounds.
• Effectively communicate research progress and findings to project teams and management.

• Ph.D. in Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in drug discovery research, preferably in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.
• Proven expertise in assay development, optimization, and execution for small molecule drug discovery.
• Strong understanding of medicinal chemistry principles and drug development processes.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively in a hybrid team environment.
